Notify when Gemini finishes replying
Shows a system notification with the chat title and a short response preview after Gemini finishes a standard reply.
Turn this on when you regularly leave Gemini running in a background tab.
Gemini Reply Completion Notifications
Overview
Section titled “Overview”Notifications let you leave a Gemini tab while a response is generating. When a standard Gemini reply finishes in a background tab, Gemini Power Kit sends a system notification with the chat title and a short response preview.
Click the notification to return to the conversation that created it. The notification is then cleared from the notification center.
Why It Matters
Section titled “Why It Matters”Long replies should not force you to keep watching one tab. Notifications help when you:
- work across several Gemini conversations
- switch to another app while waiting for a response
- run a longer prompt and want to continue as soon as it finishes
- need an audible cue instead of repeatedly checking the tab
Settings Guide
Section titled “Settings Guide”Play a sound with notifications
Plays a short completion sound after a notification is created. This separate sound option is available on Chromium browsers.
Use it when visual notifications are easy to miss or when Gemini is behind another app.
Notification sound
Use the built-in completion sound or upload your own audio file for a more recognizable notification cue.
Custom audio is stored locally by the extension and is used only for notification sound playback.
Send test notification
Creates a test alert so you can confirm that browser and system notification settings are working.
Run this immediately after enabling notifications or after changing operating-system settings.
Notification troubleshooting
Opens guidance for checking browser permissions and operating-system notification settings.
Use it when the feature is enabled but no alert appears.
Quick Workflow
Section titled “Quick Workflow”- Open the Gemini Power Kit sidebar.
- Go to Notifications.
- Turn on Notify when Gemini finishes replying and approve the requested browser permissions.
- Optionally turn on Play a sound with notifications.
- Optionally upload a custom file under Notification sound.
- Click Send test notification to verify your setup.
- Start a Gemini reply, then switch to another tab or app.
- Click the completion notification to return to the correct conversation.
Notification Behavior
Section titled “Notification Behavior”- Notifications are sent only when the Gemini page is hidden or does not have focus.
- The alert uses the current chat title and a short preview when they are available.
- If response details cannot be read, you still receive a generic completion alert.
- Clicking an alert focuses its Gemini conversation and clears the alert.
- When notification sound is enabled, custom audio replaces the built-in completion sound.
- The extension processes notification content locally and does not read the streaming response body.
Current Scope
Section titled “Current Scope”Notifications currently detect standard Gemini replies. Deep Research, Canvas, and other Gemini workflows that do not use the standard reply flow may not create a completion notification.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”If the test notification does not appear:
- Confirm the main notification switch is still enabled.
- Open Notification Troubleshooting.
- Allow notifications for your browser in operating-system settings.
- Check Focus, Do Not Disturb, or other system modes that may hide alerts.
- Send another test notification.
